What Elephant Camps in Thailand sell Pictures painted by the Elephants for the public to buy?
Q. I am travelling over to Thailand at the end of this year and am interested in going to an Elephant Camp, not only for the trek but to buy a painting by one of the Elephants, At the moment the only place i seem to find to be able to buy them is online. I would rather buy one whilst i am over there. Any suggestions?

What does it mean if you dream about elephant?
Q. I had a dream i was in my yard with an elephant and a monkey, the elephant was gigantic and grey and the monkey was brown. The elephant rolled on its back like it was trying to play but i new it could be dangerous, i saw the monkey and wanted to get it away from the elephant but the elephant rolled over and killed the monkey. I ran into the house in terror to tell my mom, and the elephant followed and was trying to break into my house. Everyone was yelling at me and telling me to tame the elephant, and the owner came and took the elephant. The owner was in her car crying over the dead monkey, and everyone was angry at me and blamed me for it. What could this dream mean? *-* anyone else?

A. Hi, I have been doing research about dream interpretation and I thought I would try my hand at yours because it is a very interesting one. Keep in mind that I could be way off...I've used some common resources for dream symbols to come up with this interpretation. First off I want to look at the symbols in the dream. Dreams that take place in a backyard are things you want to keep hidden. An elephant in your dream, when it is a negative thing, usually means that you have a huge problem you don't want to confront. Monkeys in a dream can represent your immature or childish side. A monkey dying in a dream suggests that this side of you has changed. The house being invaded by the elephant suggests you are feeling trampled or invaded on. [cont.]

What episode of Family Guy does the elephant read a book instead of calling 911 on the dispute upstairs?
Q. I think in one of the episodes, Brian says, "Oh, he is worse than that elephant that doesn't call 911" and then it jumps to a random scene where the elephant is reading his book in his room while not even caring about a fatal argument going on upstairs. Then he says "I think there are two sides to this". What episode is that?

What is the daily routine of an elephant trainer?
Q. I would like to know about a zoo elephant trainer's daily routine, including: 1) Do you handle the elephants or just use verbal commands; 2) What are some common commands for elephants to learn; 3) Do you have to inspect the elephants for injuries, parasites, etc? Thanks.
Asked by funkadelic - Sat Oct 10 13:40:04 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. From what I've seen at the Denver Zoo and Colorado Ren Faire: 1). You do handle the elephant and use verbal commands. For example you might touch the animal's leg for training or encouragement. There's a lot of treat-giving too. 2). The commands I remember are to raise a foot (very handy for inspecting the elephant's health), to 'shake hands' with its trunk, and to take a bow. 3). You may or may not have to inspect the elephants for injuries/parasites/etc. Many of the trainers I've seen at the zoo and Ren Faire have done that every time they see the animal for the first time in the day, or when they're giving classes, but some trainers will have assistants to inspect the elephants. I feel like it's a better idea to inspect the elephant… [cont.]

A. Actually it is an alternative, it's called human culling. That means, if you reduce the human population you reduce the human impact on animal populations and there is more room for the animals.

Why does an elephant fall faster than a penny?
Q. Don't say air resistance. An elephant clearly has more air resistance than a penny. It's wider and has a greater surface area. And the faster an object falls, the more air resistance it gets. So why does an elephant fall faster than a penny?

A. A falling object will continue to accelerate to higher speeds, until it encounters an amount of air resistance which equals its weight (weight being a force due to gravity time its mass). Terminal velocity is when a balance is acheived between the air resistance and force of gravity on an object so that it acheives a consistant speed of it fall. Since an elephant weights more (greater mass) than a penny, the elephant will accelerate to higher speeds before reaching a terminal velocity. More massive objects fall faster than less massive objects because they are acted upon by a larger resultant force from the effects of gravity(F=ma); for this reason, they accelerate to higher speeds until the force from air resistance force equals the… [cont.]

How do I identify the orientation of Elephant ear bulbs?
Q. Help! I recently purchased Green Elephant Ear bulbs and am having touble distinguishing the top from the bottom. They are ostrich egg size and have been trimmed so closely that there are few distinguishing characteristics. One end has several areas where it looks like roots or shoots could have been trimmed off and the other end has a pattern of almost symetrical concentric circles. Are there any colocasia experts out there who can give me a little direction?...I'd hate to plant them upside down. Thanks for your input.

A. The end with the concentric circles is the top of the bulb and should be planted pointing up: But it doesn't really make much difference, actually. When in doubt just plant them sideways. =) Omega

A. I think you mean tusks. Nobody reputable will give you an appraisal on line most likely. First, gather all the provenance on this piece you can find. If you bought it where, from whom, when, how much, do you have bill of sale, previous provenance, or if you bought from artist, any supporting info. If nothing, or you picked it up at a bazaar overseas, or inherited it, you should put all the data in writing, take it to a notary, and have your statement notarized. then look up fine art appraisers in your yellow pages or on line and contact them with the provenance info, including any markings, or identifying marks, dimensions, photos, and ask for an appraisal. Do you think an elephant has ever had a philosophical thought?
Q. Pro: they have a long life and we know how smart and social they are. Also, they spend so much time just cruising around that they definitely have a lot of time to ponder things. Also, you have every elephant in the history of the plant, and all their thoughts. Added together that is an enormous amount of running minutes of thought to work with. Con: they do not have the power of language. (and to be technical, I am refering to natural language with semantics and grammar, not language in the general sense of the term) No, in fact. What is the lenged?

A. You are one of the few who understand that grammar, syntax, and semantics are vitally important for philosophical thinking. Yet, man had all of that for millenia before he had his first conscious philosophical thought. It doesn't count if you don't know that it's a philosophical thought. Philosophy is the knowledge that one is thinking in terms of epistemology and metaphysics and ethics, etc. Science tells us that the chimp has the closest thing to a rudimentary language. The same science tells us that the chimp is about 400,000 years behind us in cognitive thinking. A. Well, first i know of no organization that hires merely "Elephant Keepers" unless that is the only type of animal they have. Basicly a keeper, prepares the food, cleans the habitat, trains the animal, interacts with the public in a friendly way, monitors the animals health, administers medication, does a lot of paperwork and filing of reports. The hardest part of this entire process is the knowledge you need to train the animal (it also takes a very specific temperment on the part of the keeper) and the paperwork/administration dealing. I personally hated dealing with the public. I can handle paperwork, and my position was such that I had more input in policy than many other keepers.

Q. *How do you prevent elephant knees? I wear leggings quite a bit but throughout the day they sort of crinkle at the knees hence I call them elephant knees lol. It's such a pain because I have to keep pulling them up throughout the day. How can I fix this it's annoying?

How do you get a baby elephant on farmville?
Q. How do you give (or receive) a baby elephant on farmville?

A. The baby elephants were a limited edition giftable item because the circus was in town. They are no longer available, but you can check if any of your friends still has it. A baby elephant gives slightly better profit than a brown cow.

What are good (simple) recipes for elephant garlic?
Q. My wife accidentally got me a big bulb of elephant garlic. While I have nothing against it, it doesn't have the pungent harshness I want for the chili I'm making. So I went out and got the regular, way more pungent garlic which I promptly used in the chili that's slow-cooking in the crock pot, as I write this. Now . . . what to do with the elephant garlic? I don't want to insult my wife by having her get a refund! if anyone knows of any good recipes well-suited for elephant garlic, do let me know. It can't be an overly complicated recipe, or call for particular expensive ingredients. It also can't be for dishes containing tripe or squid or octopus, but besides those restrictions I'm open to pretty much anything. Thank you! I do… [cont.]

A. Glazed elephant garlic 4 bulbs elephant garlic 1 tbsp. water 2 tbsp. brown sugar 1 tbsp. butter Clean garlic; divide into cloves. (You should have about 20 cloves.) Remove and discard the skins and stems. Slice any large cloves. Arrange the garlic in a 9" microwave safe pie plate. Add water. Cover with vented microwave safe plastic wrap. Micro-cook on 100% power (high) for 5 to 7 minutes. (Low Wattage Ovens: & 1/2 to 10 1/2 minutes) or until the garlic is tender, stirring once. Set aside. In a 1 cup glass measure, combine the brown sugar, honey and butter. Cook, uncovered, on high for 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 minutes (low wattage ovens: 2 to 3 minutes) or until the honey mixture is thickened and syrupy, stirring after every minute. Drain garlic, [cont.]
